John Butcher

imageJohn Butcher of Berkshire, England, wrote to Must Have Perennials™ about a seedling of Solidago that had appeared in his garden. Although it was not a different colour, it was quite impressive in its habit and amount of rich golden-yellow flowers.

The resulting successful trial yielded Solidago cutleri ‘Goldrush’, which heralds the coming of autumn with masses of yellow flower clusters, all but concealing its rich green foliage in August and September. It forms very attractive, uniform and compact mounds with densely packed, 10 cm “rods” of tiny individual yellow gold florets.
