Pink flowers with dark pink eye in summer. Clump-forming plants with erect flowering stems. Mildew resistant variety of this “backbone” perennial. In Chicago Botanic Garden trials, ‘Shortwood’ showed no powdery mildew infection even though adjacent cultivars were severely infected. Comes to Must Have Perennials from Sinclair Adam, Dunvegan Nursery, West Chester, PA. Found as a chance seedling of ‘David’ which was slightly taller and eqsually mildew resistant. He named it ‘Shortwood’ for Stephanie Cohen’s “Shortwood” garden.
