Coreopsis Creme Brulee was discovered growing in the private garden of Lois Woodhull by her sister, June Croon, after her untimely death. Lois was a renowned plants woman whose company, The Plantage, is a premier perennial plant nursery in New York state (USA). June Croon felt the flowers were a gift returning each year as a reminder of her sister, offering hope, encouragement and healing. Half the proceeds from the royalties of Creme Brulee go to non-profit organizations which help people in need.
When June realized her find was something special, she showed it to internationally known plantsman Adrian Bloom. Bloom confirmed that it was indeed worthy of introduction. She then offered it to the plant-breeding program at Must Have Perennials™. It is now available globally.
Creme Brulee improves upon Coreopsis ‘Moonbeam’, with larger, deeper yellow flowers and greater vigor. Flowers appear above the canopy and farther down the stems for a fuller appearance. Foliage shows better resistance to powdery mildew.
Coreopsis ‘Golden Dream’ is a dwarf sport of Creme Brulee with golden-yellow flowers that splashed with darker accents. The smaller size makes it perfect for container gardening. ‘Sweet Marmalade’ is another sport of Creme Brulee. Its stunning flowers open as a deep orange, then mellow to a soft apricot yellow.
